Baublewood

~ A labyrinthine weald of barren sticks glitter with smiling ornaments hung from above. The air is thick and eerie with the sound of murmuring gossip echoing through the woods. ~

The Baublewood is populated by ornaments of various size, shape and colour. As you walk through the woods you can hear their hushed murmurs and soft laughter. When approached the baubles will cease their chatter and instead grin happily as you pass by.

Places of Interest

Fort Winterbolt - a small settlement at the centre of the Baublewood. A ragtag group of small bearded woods-folk patrol the fort. They guard a colossal tree of ice which encases the body of a dangerous sorcerer. They are willing to lodge travellers in exchange for news beyond the Baublewood but are very distrustful of the baublefolk.

Sugar Shack - Once brimming with cheerful sap harvesters, the wooden cottage now stands abandoned after all the syrup taps dried up mysteriously 200 Christmas' ago.

Brick Chimney - You see a faint glow through the trees, fragrant aromas rise from the cobbled brick opening. Peering in you can see shadows dancing on the brick beneath, a warm fire cinders quietly below.

D6 Rumours

The baublefolk of the wood love to spread rumours, a grin of good cheer makes it hard to discern the lies from the truths

1 A snowy thunderhead looms over the Silver Steppe. Travellers swear they can see the silhouette of a whimsical city amidst the deluge of erratic weather. (Roll 1d6, on a 5-6 the thunderhead moves one hex)

2 A strange sickness has come over the Hearth. The once meandering ooze of the molasses river has quickened as of late. Unconfirmed accounts of Snow Miser's lackeys heating the river have been reported. *This is actually Heat Miser's goons in disguise, they will do anything to smear Snow Miser*

3 The Gorcs of the Rime Ridge have uncovered a large silver bell buried beneath Gorcington. Since its discovery the children of Gorcington have all disappeared.

4 The Citadel of Treetop Angels in the Valley of Eternal Cheer is under siege by a mighty flock. Factions of swans, geese, doves and hens unite under the banner of a pear tree.

5 Travellers from the Green Chapel whisper of a large figure in red roaming the moors. The cloaked figure mumbles about missing toys; artifacts of great significance . . .

6 Unrest is growing at the Castle Claus, there is talk of elvish revolt lead by one of the wives of the King-in-Red.

Friendly Faces

i. A horned ornament imparts dubious omens upon weary travellers, it's hoping to trick them into getting on the naughty list. The ornament will petition travellers to complete dishonourable deeds in exchange for boons. With the completion of each deed characters lose favour with Santa and any related parties. Upon the completion of all deeds the ornament springs to life and attempts to capture character in their wicker basket. Any creature caught in the basket will turn into a baublefolk ornament.

ii. A mechanical steed, the last of it's kind gallops through the woods looking for its lost herd, it is hunted tirelessly by a dangerous faction from the shores of the Sea of Swirly Twirly Gumdrops.

iii. Two quarrelsome puppeteers Bankin and Rass, have become turned around in the woods and need help getting to Sadtown for their puppet show, little do they know a bounty has been placed on their heads by Miser Master.

iv. A sugar-plum dryad accompanied by a straw goat searches for the sweet nectar of maple taffy. Those who are able to fulfill the request will receive a wreath of mistletoe which will guard against ghosts.

v. A snow giant sleeps soundly beneath a layer of snow, at night she redecorates the forest, moving the baublefolk from tree to tree making it difficult to find your way out of the forest.
